Kamla Game Review: A Spine-Chilling Horror Inspired by Indian Folklore

Kamla – Indian Horror Game Review

1. Story / Concept

The game is inspired by Indian folklore and tantric rituals.
The story revolves around Kamla, a woman believed to be possessed by an evil spirit.

The player takes the role of a Tantrik priest who must perform rituals to remove the spirit. The narrative reflects traditional Indian beliefs about possession, exorcism, and spiritual protection.

2. Horror Atmosphere

The game creates a strong psychological horror experience.

  • Dim lighting and shadowy environments increase tension.

  • Eerie background sounds make the atmosphere unsettling.

  • Sudden jump scares keep players constantly alert.

The setting inside an old Indian-style mansion makes the horror feel realistic and culturally connected.

3. Gameplay

The game is a first-person horror experience.

Players must:

  • Explore rooms in the house

  • Collect ritual items

  • Solve puzzles related to exorcism rituals

The main objective is to complete the ritual and free Kamla from the evil spirit before she attacks.

Stealth and survival elements make the gameplay more intense.

4. Graphics & Design

The game features realistic Indian house interiors, giving it a very authentic desi horror vibe.

  • Dark color palette enhances the fear factor.

  • The house resembles a traditional Indian village home.

  • The character design of Kamla is extremely creepy and memorable.

The blood effects look very realistic, which adds to the scary experience.

5. Sound Design

Sound design plays a huge role in building the horror atmosphere.

  • Background music slowly builds tension.

  • Traditional chanting and ritual sounds add authenticity.

  • Sudden sound effects increase the impact of jump scares.

6. Cultural and Spiritual Elements

One of the most interesting aspects of the game is how it includes Indian spiritual beliefs and rituals.

The game highlights the importance of sacred elements such as:

  • Hanuman Chalisa, which is traditionally believed to protect people from negative energies and evil spirits.

  • Lord Ganesha, who in Hindu belief removes obstacles and brings protection before starting rituals.

  • Ganga Jal (holy water from the River Ganga), which is considered sacred and is used in purification rituals.

These elements make the exorcism process feel authentic and rooted in Indian traditions.

7. Strengths

  • Unique Indian folklore-based horror concept

  • Strong horror atmosphere and suspense

  • Authentic cultural and spiritual references

  • Short but intense gameplay experience

8. Weaknesses

  • Gameplay is relatively short

  • Limited mechanics compared to larger horror games

  • Some parts of the story feel linear

9. My Personal View

In my opinion, the game captures the desi horror feeling really well. The house design looks like a real Indian village house, which makes the environment more immersive.

The blood effects look very real, and while playing, I actually felt goosebumps at certain moments.

However, I noticed that the controls feel slightly laggy in some areas, which can affect the smoothness of gameplay.

And honestly, Kamla is no joke. Her terrifying gaze and sudden appearances make the experience very intense and sometimes difficult to handle.
